My first bird quilt

In April 2021, I was recovering from pneumonia and feeling quite weak. I was bedridden for weeks, with little energy to even watch TV. However, I discovered that I could still sew. It’s something I love deeply, and it’s so ingrained in me that I found it didn’t drain my energy—in fact, it helped me regain it.

I started with a few small tablecloths before searching for a new pattern. That’s when I came across an ad for Timna Tarr’s online course, Stitched mosaics. I loved the technique, but instead of using the flower pattern provided, I decided to search online for an image. Since Easter was approaching, I settled on a cute Easter chick.

I know it’s not always wise to deviate from a pattern when you’re still learning, but my brain gets bored easily, and I’ve never been great at following patterns strictly.

It was certainly a challenge, but one I embraced and loved. Now, each Easter, my little Easter chick proudly hangs in our living room—both as a decoration and as a reminder to never give up or choose the easy way out.
