"Arctic tern"

The Arctic tern is not only a beautiful bird but also an extraordinary one. I made this quilt in the autumn of 2021, and capturing the shadows proved to be a big challenge. I had purchased a lot of white fabric, but as I began selecting fabric for each square, I realised my mistake—there are actually very few white squares in this quilt. Most of it is made up of different shades of grey.
I learned a great deal during the process, and while I can now see several mistakes—some areas are too dark, and the overall tone is a bit “dirty”—I’m still very proud of it. When I finished and posted it on my Facebook page, my old textile teacher from elementary school reached out and asked to buy it. Today, my first "Arctic Tern" quilt proudly hangs in her summer house in Hrísey, Iceland.

This size of this quilt is 68x97 cm.
The background wasn’t particularly challenging this time around, but I didn’t have enough fabric in the right light blue hue. So once again, I turned to fabric paint to create the colour I needed to complete the piece.
